Love wins. Always.

Boy howdy, it was a big weekend for me! I was deeply honored to serve as this year's Ally Grand Marshal in the Houston Pride parade on Saturday night, and I’m still tired.

So much fun. So much dancing. So much sweat.

Around 40 friends and family helped lead the parade in our group, and I got to ride in a Jeep along with a giant inflatable duck! 🐥

I posted a bunch of joyful pictures on social media Sunday night, then woke up to this on Monday morning:

And those are the tamer ones.

These jackasses are why I specifically wanted a banner with "Parents of Trans Youth" on our parade entry.

I have enormous privilege as the parent of trans kids who are over 18. I can be loud and visible in my support without fear of my state government targeting me or my kids.

I made the banner, ordered "Protect Trans Kids" t-shirts, made sure we had a huge happy group, and posted joyful pictures for those parents who, for whatever reason, cannot be visible in their support. I wanted them to know that they are not alone, and we'll always have their backs.

I wanted trans kids to see people who love them so much that they walked in a Texas parade in 107 degree weather in front of thousands of people declaring their support loudly and proudly.

This visible love and joy and celebration will drown out those sad little people who hide behind Facebook comments.

Love wins. Always.

Sunday was National Coming Out Day, and it got me thinking about how coming out is not a one-and-done thing. Trans kids (and people) often have to come out multiple times to multiple different people in multiple different situations. And that goes for families of trans kids, too. If this is new to you, it may feel awkward or uncomfortable when telling someone your kid’s new name and pronouns. I’ve been there! I tried giving people a full "Gender 101" to explain my kid’s new name, and I tried...

A beautiful day for democracy! (with kiddo Mars) This week, I gave public testimony at the Texas Senate Committee on Education on why Senate Bill 12 is harmful to transgender students. The hearing covered several of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s “interim charges” (policy priorities) - kind of a checkup on how these bills or topics were going between legislative sessions. Well, I’ll tell ya how they’re going - they suck! SB12 (passed into law in 2025) is a nuclear bomb of a bill that includes...

A couple of weeks ago, I posted something on social media about grief, saying that it’s a real feeling for parents of trans kids, but it was actually about the loss of expectations for your child. And that you can’t get stuck in that feeling - instead, move on to joy and hope. Another parent I know and respect from the advocacy space (Lizette Trujillo - she's a badass) contacted me privately about this post and let me know how the grief narrative for parents is harmful to our trans children....
