Chappin' my hide

Did you catch the President's State of the Union speech this week?

Nah, I didn't either. I figured I'd catch the highlights later rather than subjecting myself to that man's voice for 107 minutes.

As you can imagine, this "highlight" really chapped my hide:

"No state can be allowed to rip children from their parents' arms and transition them to a new gender against the parents’ will. Who would believe that we’re even talking about this? We must ban it, and we must ban it immediately."

Raise your hand if your child or a child you know was "transitioned" against their parents' will.

No one? I thought not. BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN.

No child is "ripped from their parents' arms" for any kind of transition - social, legal, or medical.

Trans kids are not a talking point, debate, or political pawns.

Trans kids are human beings with valid identities who deserve safety, care, and dignity.

The inaugural Parents of Pride Conference, hosted by PFLAG Los Angeles, is this Saturday, February 28th from 9:00 AM - 2:10 PM PT.

This free day-long virtual event is for parents and caregivers of LGBTQ+ children of all ages and features expert-led workshops covering Education, Support, and Advocacy - the three pillars of PFLAG's mission.

And yours truly is one of the afternoon panelists!

It's on Zoom, so anyone, anywhere can join.

For the past five years, journalist Erin Reed has maintained a list of transgender and nonbinary Girl Scouts selling cookies, encouraging her readers to buy from them! If you're looking to fill your Girl Scout cookie fix, consider buying from one of the kiddos on Erin's list. Click here for the Girl Scout list! Buy from Girl Scouts who have not reached their goals, and choose the “ship the cookies” option and not the “deliver the cookies” option (so some poor Girl Scout won't have to deliver...

I recently discovered Lelaina Faye's Instagram account (@defenestrans) and love their "Language Lessons for Lefties." She points out that allies often unintentionally use incorrect phrases that are framed by and weaponized by the right. Right-wing framing has been repeated so often that it starts to seem like acceptable vernacular. But when we repeat these phrases or terms, we're accidentally keeping them alive. Allies can work on noticing when familiar phrases come from political campaigns...

Last December, HHS proposed a series of rules that would make it much harder for trans youth to access medically necessary care: These rules would: 1. Block Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care for trans patients under 18, and block CHIP coverage for trans patients under 19. 2. Ban hospitals that provide gender-affirming health care to trans youth from participating in Medicaid/Medicare for all patients, which would essentially force hospitals across the country to end youth...
