Last December, HHS proposed a series of rules that would make it much harder for trans youth to access medically necessary care:

These rules would:

1. Block Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care for trans patients under 18, and block CHIP coverage for trans patients under 19.

2. Ban hospitals that provide gender-affirming health care to trans youth from participating in Medicaid/Medicare for all patients, which would essentially force hospitals across the country to end youth gender-affirming care or close.

Every major American medical and mental health association recognizes youth gender-affirming health care as life-saving, evidence-based, and medically necessary.

We need YOU to speak out against these rules so they know how strongly we oppose these awful attacks on trans youth healthcare access.

Public comments on these rules are being accepted until February 17, and ANYONE can comment.

You can go directly to the official public comment portal on the federal website, BUT I recommend using a trusted organization’s submission page and they will submit anonymously on your behalf. This keeps you much safer!

Human Rights Campaign and Alliance for Trans Youth Rights have these portals:

Personalize your comment: share your connection to the issue and what’s at stake. Note that comments are part of the public record, so please don’t include any personal information that you wouldn’t want accessible to the public.

The Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services is required to read and respond to public comments before finalizing these policies. Large numbers of comments — especially from families directly impacted — matter and can be used in ligitation later if needed (in a good way).

Your voice matters - use it!

Last week, I took a quick trip to Austin to see my kids and some friends, and my cup was full. I hadn't seen Mars and Indigo in a good while, and it was so fun to hear about their latest adventures and work dramas. I also threw together a last-minute gathering of friends; I told a handful of Austin folks that I'd be at an ice cream shop (Amy's - the best!) on Sunday night and I'd love to see them. Old and new friends showed up, and Reader, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! You know...

Support from parents and caregivers is crucial for the well-being of transgender and nonbinary youth, providing a solid foundation for their development and health (Trevor Project, 2024). Research by the Family Acceptance Project found that families who support their children's identities "help promote self-esteem, overall health, stronger relationships and help to protect against suicidal behavior, depression and substance abuse." This is why Parents of Trans Youth exists! We know that the...

I get lots of nasty comments on my social media content, but sometimes they honestly make me think. First of all - RUDE, Norma! Second, this comment actually has a couple of very interesting layers. At one time, I also used the word "weird" for something that I felt pushed the boundaries of what I thought was appropriate or the norm. And that was my judgement of other people and behaviors. But having trans children, learning more about the LGBTQ+ and transgender communities, and becoming...
