Free support session on Monday!

The Trans Youth Emergency Project of the Campaign for Southern Equality will host a free online youth and parent support session led by the amazing mothasistah™ and yours truly!

Many parents of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive youth are struggling with the recent orders, policies, and bills affecting their kids.

TYEP is committed to providing a safe, welcoming space for these brave young folks and their families – so they’re welcoming parents and caregivers of trans kids and young adults to gather in community to share fears, feelings, challenges, and hopes with each other.

The new short documentary Crystal: Story of a Girl From Texas tells the story of a Texas trans girl, her challenges, and her supportive family (whom I know personally!).

The film has been making the festival rounds since August of 2024, won the award for Best Documentary Short at the 2024 Dallas International Film Festival, and is now available for free on YouTube.

Director Michelle Mower gives a summary:

Crystal loves geography, dancing, squishmallows, and video games. But Crystal was born biologically a different gender than she identifies. Her family and friends all love Crystal and accept her for who she is, but the state of Texas does not. This is the story of a little girl and her beautiful family who are unjustly being torn apart over anti-transgender laws in Texas.

I hope this film can help spotlight the importance of family support for their trans kids.

I got my hair cut recently, and I was talking to my stylist about being an ally to the queer community. She nodded along, then after a while asked, “So… what’s an ally?” I forgot that not everyone knows what an ally is! I told her that an ally is someone from a non-marginalized group who uses their privilege to advocate for a marginalized group. They transfer the benefits of their privilege to those who lack it. She said, Oh, I’m an ally!” and gave an example of helping people in a different...
