It's never wrong to support your trans child

It seems like every day, there's a new policy or report or news item that seeks to invalidate trans kids and restrict their access to stuff other kids take for granted: health care, sports teams, seeing themselves in books and classroom instruction, or having their name and identity respected at school.

For parents of trans children, all that noise can be scary. When you hear those loud voices, those squeaky wheels – all that misinformation and hateful language can really mess with your head.

You might start questioning or having doubts: is all this transgender "stuff" real? Is it wrong to affirm my kid’s gender identity? Am I a bad parent?

Know this: it is NEVER wrong to believe your child.

And it is NEVER wrong to affirm and support your child’s gender identity.

And it’s never wrong to tell your kid you believe and support them. And it's never wrong to show them.

And it’s never too late.

Your child knows who they are, and they’ll keep on being transgender, nonbinary, or gender expansive no matter what awful stories are in the news or what hateful things politicians say.

I know it’s challenging to parent a trans kid, and you sometimes feel like the whole world is against you and your kid. But you’re not alone, and it’s going to be OK.
