Hear author KB Brookins on queerness, masculinity, and race

Parents of Trans Youth is hosting KB Brookins for a conversation about their memoir Pretty on September 29, and I want you there, Reader.

KB will read from their memoir, I'll do a little fireside chat with them, then you'll have a chance to ask KB questions.

“This book blew me away. Seamlessly transitioning between poetry and prose, Pretty is as fearless, incisive, and brilliant as they come. It’s a gorgeous memoir that, despite pain and rejection, insists on hope, forgiveness, and Black trans joy. ‘You see gender, spinning and fusing into something freer?’ Brookins asks. Thanks to their life-changing book, I do, I really do. There’s no doubt about it: Brookins is the real deal.” —Marisa Crane, author of I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself

Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa messed up. But using the same framework as a transphobic pronoun joke isn't funny or clever. It's a dog whistle for jackasses...

It’s important to remember that you’re grieving the loss of your expectations for your child, not the loss of your child. Your kid is still the same kid!
