A direct action to close out the year

Want a concrete action you can take to support help trans youth in the U.S.? I got you.

Two proposed federal rules would make it much harder for trans youth to access medically necessary care.

These rules would:

1. Block Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care for trans patients under 18, and block CHIP coverage for trans patients under 19.

2. Threaten hospitals’ participation in Medicare/Medicaid if they provide gender-affirming care to youth, which would put tremendous pressure on them to stop providing that care.

Public comments on these rules are being accepted until February 17, and ANYONE can comment.

You can go directly to the official public comment portal on the federal website, BUT I recommend using a trusted organization’s submission page and they will submit anonymously on your behalf. This keeps you much safer!

Human Rights Campaign and Alliance for Trans Youth Rights have these portals:

Personalize your comment: share your connection to the issue and what’s at stake, but don't share identifying information such as full names of minors, birthdates, addresses, school names, clinic names, medical record details, etc.

The Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services is required to read and respond to public comments before finalizing these policies. Large numbers of comments — especially from families directly impacted — matter and can be used in ligitation later if needed (in a good way).

Your voice matters - use it!

This weekend, I jumped on the "This is who" trend on social media. Businesses have been posting childhood photos of themselves and/or their team members, captioned with "This is who [does a specific job task]". The trend is supposed to humanize brands and create a personal connection with their audiences. Looking back at these pictures made me think that I had NO idea I'd be doing what I am today, even as recently as a few years ago. I had no clue what being transgender meant when my first...

A few weeks ago, I had surgery for a back issue, and the recovery has been a bit rougher than I anticipated. In addition to feeling significant soreness and fatigue, I was not allowed to raise my arms above my shoulders or bend, lift, or twist for 30 days. Yesterday finally marked 30 days since the surgery, and I celebrated by doing exciting things like bending over to tie my shoes, leaning over to put my breakfast dishes in the dishwasher, and reaching for office supplies on a high shelf. I...
