KB Brookins is a writer, educator, and cultural worker from Texas. KB’s poetry collection Freedom House (2023) won the American Library Association Barbara Gittings Literature Award and the Texas Institute of Letters Award for Best First Book of Poetry. KB’s memoir Pretty (2024) won the Lambda Literary Award in Transgender Nonfiction, the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award, and the Dorothy Allison/Felice Picano Emerging Writer Award. Their writing is published in The New Republic, Newsweek, Poetry Magazine, and elsewhere. Currently, KB is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Santa Clara University and the creator of Trans News That Doesn’t Suck, a digital series that has amassed over 8,000 Substack subscribers and 1 million+ views across Instagram and TikTok. Mandy Giles (she/her) is the parent of two transgender young adults and the founder/CEO of Parents of Trans Youth, a social impact business providing learning, support, and community to parents and caregivers of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive kids. She has been heavily involved in advocacy work since 2021 and has testified before the Texas Legislature dozens of times. Mandy is the 2026 Pride Houston Ally Grand Marshal, the recipient of the Equality Texas 2025 Business Champion Award, and a past president of PFLAG Houston.
